Each summer, Surrey hosts the Storm Drain Marking Challenge, which seeks to educate community members while engaging them in a fun, family-friendly initiative. The purpose of this challenge is to highlight the fact that all storm drains empty untreated water into fish-bearing streams throughout the city. It is important that pollutants do not go down the drain.
The Storm Drain Marking Challenge runs from June 15 to August 15, 2021. It is a chance for the community to get involved in stewardship initiatives while having fun and getting outside.
Participating in the Storm Drain Marking Challenge involves painting yellow fish symbols beside each and every storm drain in Surrey. With the stroke of a brush, you can help protect our fish-bearing streams!
Last year, more than 90 families and school groups participated in the challenge. This resulted in more than 400 storm drains being marked. This year, we would like to keep the momentum going and mark just as many storm drains—if not more! Are you up for the challenge?
