What Did I Love is a multimedia arts initiative that collects personal stories and narratives using a conversational podcast, expressive arts therapy practices, and sculpture format. POP! Self-directed activities use QR codes in public parks inviting participants to experience the activity at their own pace. This activity takes place in Green Timbers Urban Forest, and via QR codes, shares stories from a diverse array of people in Surrey. These narratives explore feelings of grief and loss. The stories acknowledge that everyone has their own journey and that everyone processes, engages with, and learns from their experiences differently.

The activity What Did I Love is anchored in grief in its many forms. Although death is one of the themes, this activity looks at loss and the feelings that come with it in a variety of ways. For example, there will also be stories from younger members of the community, and how they are engaging with loss right now during COVID times.

This sensitive and thoughtful experience is designed to connect people of all ages and lived experiences. As well as engaging with the QR codes that will be situated at various locations throughout Green Timbers Urban Forest, there will also be opportunities for participants to connect with the artists directly via email to share their thoughts.

This self-directed activity is one that is designed to encourage open dialogue and connectivity. It was created to help people make sense of their own big and difficult feelings, resulting in feelings of hope. Ultimately What Did I Love is a journey of self-exploration, one designed to help us remember that we are all part of a larger community. Its aim is to bring comfort to people and an understanding that although grief is a personal and individual journey, through authentic and open dialogue, we are never on our own.

About the Artists

The artists, Alannah Clamp and Heather Prost met and began their working relationship after connecting in a sudden traumatic loss grief group last year. As artists, they sought ways to hold space for both their losses and creativity. Out of this experience, they formed their collective, which explores the shared borders of grief and creativity. They are interested in the role art plays in healing along with the limits of language. What Did I Love aims to be a container for creative and interpersonal exchange around loss.
