$11M in Transportation Improvements for Surrey Through Municipal Funding Program

The City of Surrey will see $11 million in improvements through TransLink’s Municipal Funding Program, which supports maintaining, upgrading and building new transportation infrastructure throughout Metro Vancouver.

Surrey, BC – The City of Surrey will see $11 million in improvements through TransLink’s Municipal Funding Program, which supports maintaining, upgrading and building new transportation infrastructure throughout Metro Vancouver. Seven Surrey projects are being supported through the fund, from building cycling tracks and multi-use paths to constructing sidewalks and widening roads.

“I am pleased to see road network upgrades being supported in Surrey through the Municipal Funding Program,” said Mayor Doug McCallum. “It is essential we keep our roads in good working order to ensure our network moves smoothly for our citizens. Whether its driving, taking transit, walking or biking, these upgrades will support healthy lifestyles and green travel options. At a time when the environment and global warming are at the forefront, the need to provide individuals the opportunity to get out of their vehicles and have access to sustainable transportation infrastructure has never been greater.”

The Municipal Funding Program investment will go toward several projects in Surrey, including:

  • 100 Avenue Cycle Track Projects - $1,564,200
    • Provide 1.2 km of cycle track on both sides of 100 Avenue between 148 Street and 154 Street.
  • 140 Street Cycle Track - $941,800 
    • Provide 800 m of cycle tracks or multi-use paths on both sides of 140 Street between 96 Avenue and 100 Avenue.
  • 152 Street and 104 Avenue Intersection Improvements - $750,000
    • Convert existing road space to dual left turns at all legs of the 152 Street / 104 Avenue intersection.
  • 152 Street Bus Lane: 96 to 98 Avenue - $750,000
    • Convert existing road space to a Bus Lane on 152 Street in the southbound direction between 96 Avenue and 98 Avenue.
  • 152 Street Road Upgrades & Raising - $5,912,000
    • Raise and widen 152 Street between 40 Ave and 5000 Block.
  • 96 Avenue Collector Road Improvements (north side) - $690,000
    • Construct 1.5 km of sidewalk or MUP on 96 Avenue between Queens Place and 120 Street.
  • Surrey Whalley Boulevard Quick-Build: 105A Avenue to Grosvenor Road - $317,000
    • Extend Surrey City Centre cycling network by 600 m on Whalley Boulevard from 105A Avenue to Grosvenor Road.
