Surrey, B.C. – The Surrey Animal Resource Centre held a successful no-charge adoption event on May 3 and 4, seeing over 150 visitors come through its doors and finding new homes for several of the animals currently housed at the City shelter. The event aimed to move animals out of the shelter, which is currently at capacity, freeing up space and creating a more comfortable environment for remaining animals. Thanks to community support, 15 animals were adopted and left to start lives in new homes. There are still 28 animals waiting to be adopted, including 14 dogs, seven cats and seven small animals.
"The outpouring of love we saw during the adoption event was remarkable," said Mayor Brenda Locke. "Each adoption represents a joyful new beginning, not just for the animals, but for the families who welcome them. I am deeply thankful to our community for showing such enthusiasm and compassion at this event. Together, we are not just finding homes for animals; we are creating bonds that enrich lives. Let's keep the spirit of love and kindness alive as we work to give every pet the forever home they deserve."
The event not only expedited the adoption process by prioritizing in-person adoptions, but also educated the public about the benefits of adopting a shelter animal. Visitors had the opportunity to tour the shelter and meet animals of various breeds and personalities, ensuring each adoption was a great match for both the pet and the adopter. Five cats, five dogs and five rabbits found forever homes during the event.
“We still have so many wonderful animals available for adoption,” said Ashley Allen, manager of Surrey Animal Resource Centre. “If you’re looking for a new pet, we’d love to help you find the right fit for you and see some of our long term residents finally find loving new homes.”
Those who are still searching for their new furry family member can browse the current adoptable animals on the Surrey Animal Resource Centre Facebook page and learn about the adoption process on the City’s website.
The shelter encourages anyone considering adoption to visit the resource centre and explore the animals waiting for their forever homes. Together, the community can continue making a difference for Surrey’s homeless animals.
