Over 30 Youth Volunteer to Clean up Holland Park

Surrey, BC – With the official launch of  Love Where You Live on the horizon (April 22), over 30 youth got a head start by participating in the first Park Cleanup of the year at Holland Park earlier this week. Working independently or with their family, over 42 bags of garbage were collected as a part of the City’s Spring Break program, which aims to engage youth who want to give back to their community and help care for Surrey’s parks. 

“It is fantastic to see so many youth devote their time over Spring Break to make a difference in our community,” said Mayor Doug McCallum. “As we gear up for this year’s Love Where You Live campaign, I want to remind residents that there are opportunities for everyone to make a difference. No contribution is too small, as every piece of litter picked up helps us keep Surrey clean and beautiful.”

City volunteers, aged 13 to 18 are invited to join the next Spring Break Park Cleanup by registering through the MyImpactPage. Arrival times are staggered, and protocols are in place to ensure Public Health Orders are followed. Upcoming events include:

• March 18: Unwin Park 1 to 3 pm
• March 23: Holland Park 10 am to 12 pm
• March 25: Unwin Park 1 to 3 pm

The Park Cleanup program began in 2019 and has been popular with residents of all ages. Litter picking equipment is provided and no experience is necessary. The full schedule for 2021 Park Cleanup events will be announced in April.
