Surrey, BC – During the Regular Council Meeting on Monday, Mayor Brenda Locke announced that a City Grants Task Force had been established to review the City's granting programs. The initiative seeks to ensure that recipients of City funding are accountable for how they spend grant dollars and report back to the city on outcomes achieved.
"Good governance is about being responsible stewards of public funds," said Mayor Brenda Locke. "That's why I'm establishing a City Grants Task Force to make recommendations as to how we can increase transparency and accountability in our granting programs. This initiative will enable us to track how grant recipients use our funding and measure the real impact they're having in our community. By doing so, we'll be able to ensure that every dollar spent is making a meaningful difference in our community.”
Mayor Locke announced that the task force will consist of Councillors Doug Elford, Pardeep Kooner, Mike Bose, and Rob Stutt with support from staff in the Parks, Recreation & Culture and Finance departments.
The Task Force will present its recommendations to Council.
