The City was honoured with the Data Driven Transport Outcomes Award during the ITS Canada 2021 Virtual Conference on June 21, 2021. The ITS Canada awards are a celebration of excellence and recognition for outstanding contributions to the Canadian Intelligent Transportation Systems industry, highlighting the safety benefits and value intelligent mobility technologies bring to cities, the economy, environment, transportation, and everyday lives.
Surrey’s award-winning initiative involves replacing the dispersed documentation of traffic signal electrical maintenance activities with a centralized system of engagement. Surrey staff and contracted electrical crews now log maintenance activity in an integrated mobile application as they complete work across the City. The digital system enables staff and contractors to see maintenance records across the City in real-time, resulting in improved decision making and cost savings. The data insights leading to enhanced electrical maintenance practices will provide improved citizen services using fewer resources as the City grows.
Surrey’s leading edge Traffic Management Centre operates 434 traffic signals, 514 traffic cameras and 32,000 streetlights, to help provide residents with safer, smarter mobility.
