Surrey Youth Get Creative for BC Youth Week
City of Surrey is celebrating BC Youth Week (May 1–7) with a variety of online activities and events for youth ages 10–19 now through May 7, 2021.
Surrey, BC – City of Surrey is celebrating BC Youth Week (May 1–7) with a variety of online activities and events for youth ages 10–19 now through May 7, 2021.
“Ensuring our youth have opportunities to make positive connections within the community continues to be a key priority for the City of Surrey, especially now through the pandemic,” said Mayor Doug McCallum. “I congratulate the young leaders in our community who have stepped up to create this online program for BC Youth Week. It is a great way to stay active, involved and engaged in our community.”
Activities over the next five days include:
An online gallery tour of visual art created by youth to raise awareness of the proper use and disposal of face masks. The project was organized by preteens as part of the City of Surrey Peer Mentorship program.
The annual SASSY (Service Above Self Surrey Youth) Awards which recognize, acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of local youth in the areas of arts and culture, leadership, community service, environmental leadership, international service, overcoming adversity, and sports and recreation leadership.
A Young Playwrights Lab where youth can learn the fundamentals of story, structure and stage directions for theatre.
A Surrey Art Gallery Art in Motion video introduction to wireframe animations with artist Julia Song.
Youth Talent Showcase hosted by the City of Surrey Youth Events Squad, a volunteer youth council, the talent showcase features video submissions from Surrey youth performing in the areas of art, music and sport.
BC Youth Week is a provincial celebration of youth held annually during the first week of May. The celebration is intended to build a strong connection between youth and their communities and highlight the interests, accomplishments and diversity of youth across the province.
