Surrey, BC – After two years of virtual events, Surrey Canada Day returned to Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre in Cloverdale this past Friday. Attendees enjoyed a day of free live performances by headliners Arkells, Shawnee Kish, and Haviah Mighty. The event also featured cultural sharing from Kwantlen and Semiahmoo First Nations.

“This year’s Surrey Canada Day was a phenomenal showcase of national pride,” said Mayor Doug McCallum. “Attendees experienced a day of free live entertainment, which included Surrey musicians and Canadian rockers Arkells, Shawnee Kish and Haviah Mighty. On behalf of City Council, we thank all performers, sponsors, volunteers, and Indigenous cultural sharers for contributing to the City of Surrey’s most successful and educational Canada Day event to date. I also want to thank everyone who came out to Surrey to celebrate this great nation of ours.”

The annual event featured live performances on five stages, amusement rides, a summer market, dance battles, an Indigenous Village, community booths, a sensory friendly space, food trucks and the much-anticipated fireworks finale. The new Siam Stage offered contemporary musical performances and Indigenous cultural sharing, sharing circles with Residential School Survivors, and Indigenous workshops. Another addition was the Cultural Sharing Teepee, where attendees learned about sacred medicines, the medicine wheel, and about traditional Indigenous toys and games.

Additional activities included a youth dance battle in the Community Hub, performances by local Surrey musicians, and a free zip line. The Cloverdale Agriplex was transformed into The Barn which featured the 55+ Summer Social in the morning, followed by live music, mini golf, arcade games and craft beer and wine.

Event attendees are invited to provide their feedback on the event via an online survey for a chance to win a $250 gift card to Guildford Town Centre and two tickets to Arkells at Rogers Arena on October 25, 2022.
