Sport Surrey Grants & Scholarships
Apply for a grant to help support your next sporting event or program in Surrey, or learn about the Dave Babych and Jyrki Lumme scholarships.
Grants
Through Sport Surrey, the City of Surrey offers residents, community groups, and sporting organizations grants to assist with their sporting events, programs and initiatives.
The Sport Surrey Grant provides financial support to sporting events that have the potential to bring direct or indirect economic and community benefits to the City of Surrey. Use your Sport Surrey Grant for things like offsetting facility rental costs and enhancing existing marketing efforts of the event being hosted in Surrey.
A total of $50,000 is available throughout the year. Grant applications are accepted and reviewed in March and September.
Grant Criteria
To qualify for a Sport Surrey Grant, the event must:
- be sanctioned by the appropriate, recognized organization (PSO,NSO, International Federation (IF), etc. if applicable;
- be at the provincial, western Canadian, national, international, or invitational level; and
- be held in Surrey.

Who Can Apply
All Surrey residents, students, community groups, organizations or associations can apply.
Informal groups, businesses and organizations also qualify.

Scholarships
Sport Surrey is creating equitable opportunities for women and girls to participate and lead in the sport system and is working to achieve gender equity in our community.
The Dave Babych and Jyrki Lumme scholarships support educational and professional development for women currently involved in the City of Surrey’s sport system.
Scholarships are in partnership with the Pooni Group, Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association, and Wickenheiser Female World Hockey Festival.
Dave Babych Scholarship
To be eligible, applicants must be:
- currently registered with a female hockey organization and pursuing post-secondary studies.
- residing within the geographical boundaries of the City of Surrey.
- high-performance athletes pursuing post-secondary studies. These funds are meant to supplement related tuition costs.
Application deadline: May 23, 2022
Jyrki Lumme Scholarship
To be eligible, applicants must be:
- currently registered with a female hockey organization and participating in this year’s Wickenheiser Female World Hockey Festival.
- residing within the geographical boundaries of the City of Surrey.
- high-performance athletes pursuing post-secondary studies. These funds are meant to supplement related tuition costs.
