Policing Transition Implementation

The Policing Transition project is in full implementation following the announcement that the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General has authorized the establishment of the Surrey Police Board.  The establishment of the Board is a critical step in creating the new municipal police service for Surrey.

The Province is managing the vetting and section of candidates for the Surrey Police Board through the Crown Agencies and Board Resourcing Office.

Once appointed, an early priority of the Board will be to identify and select the Chief Constable who will lead the work to create the department. The Chief and the Board will continue to be supported by the City’s Policing Transition team throughout the project.

Once the Board and the Chief are in place a recruitment outreach and promotional campaign will be launched to enable the department to receive applications from interested officers with policing experience and new recruits. Please bookmark this website www.surreypolice.ca and visit often for updates as to when recruitment will open for the new department.

Provincial Municipal Policing Transition Study Committee Report

The Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General has released a redacted copy of the Provincial Municipal Policing Transition Study Committee (PMPTSC) Report that was completed in December 2019. Some specific information in the report has been removed for privacy and operational security reasons. A copy of the report is available on the Provincial website.
