Share holiday moments with the City of Surrey! In 2017, over 10,000 people attended Surrey Tree Lighting for holiday festivities, including the lighting of the 55 foot Christmas tree by the Mayor and council members.

A festival of national calibre, Surrey Tree Lighting Festival won the 2014 National Star Award for “Most Outstanding Event.” The festival started in 2010, and is organized by the City of Surrey’s Special Events team, along with John Donnelly & Associates Event Marketing Inc.

The Special Events Team

For over a decade, the Special Events team has been organizing the City of Surrey’s major festivals (see below), and have won national awards for its work. With a commitment to “fun for everyone,” admission to all the festivals is free, and the festivals have attracted crowds of over 200,000 people of all ages every year.

Party for the Planet (April)

Started in 2011, Party for the Planet is one of BC’s largest Earth Day celebrations! Dance to live music or try the solar-powered bungee. If you’re looking for something mellow, check out the tree and plant sale or the interactive activities sponsored by environmental organizations.

Surrey Canada Day (July 1st)

The largest July 1st celebration in Western Canada, Surrey’s Canada Day was named "Most Outstanding Public Event Over $200,000" at the Canadian Regional Event Awards in 2017. There’s something for everyone with the Shooting Stars Midway, a Seniors Strawberry Tea, and live performers. Past headliners include: Serena Ryder, Brett Kissel, Magic!, Platinum Blonde, Sloan, 54-40, Loverboy, Dragonette, Dan Mangan, & Bobs and Lolo. Of course, stay until the end and watch the Fireworks Finale light up the summer night sky.

Surrey Fusion Festival (mid-July)

See the world at Surrey’s largest multicultural celebration! Surrey Fusion Festival was named "Best Public Festival" at the Canadian Regional Event Awards in 2017. During Fusion Festival's two days, there are more than 50 international pavilions celebrating music, food and culture, and 150 performers on six stages. Past performers include Nelly Furtado, Walk Off The Earth, Amrinder Gill, Ranjit Bawa, Ricky Kej, K-OS, TOIFA Bollywood Remix, Jim Byrnes, The Zolas, Jay Sean, Bedouin Soundclash, Arrested Development, and Jully Black.
