Surrey Tree Lighting Festival
Surrey Tree Lighting Festival is the City of Surrey’s premier holiday event. Every year, the City invites residents to watch Mayor and Council “flip the switch” to light the City’s 60ft Christmas Tree. Entering its 10th year in 2020, Surrey Tree Lighting Festival has provided a decade of holiday memories and traditions to attendees. The 2020 festival will be held virtually on Saturday, November 21 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Facebook and YouTube Live.
This year’s free, family-friendly virtual event will be hosted by Santa and Mrs. Claus and will feature a variety of local performers, choirs and dance groups including Warren Dean Flandez, Members of the Surrey City Orchestra, Bukola, Rockin’ Robin, the Spindle Whorl Dancers, the Royal Academy of Bhangra and more. Additionally, viewers can expect to see holiday baking, comedy sketches and kids crafts.
Surrey Tree Lighting Festival’s mandate is to provide a memorable holiday tradition that is free to attend and inclusive to all. Programming is coordinated to ensure a diverse lineup of entertainment, suitable for all ages. Additionally, the festival encourages support toward local not-for-profit organizations, through donations to the Surrey Christmas Bureau, Surrey Food Bank, Sophie’s Place and the Surrey Fire Fighter’s Charitable Society.
Awarded the National Star Award for “Most Outstanding Event” in 2014, Surrey Tree Lighting Festival continues to impress attendees annually as it has grown to offer incredible light installations, a holiday market, a dance stage, DJ tent, food trucks and activities for all ages.
In addition to performances, Surrey Tree Lighting Festival also supports local businesses within its holiday market. Here, attendees can shop for Christmas gifts or items from local vendors. In 2020, the Holiday Market has been transitioned into a virtual marketplace, featuring over 40 local vendors and small businesses.
