Musicians and music businesses are invited to join the new Surrey Music directories.

Surrey, BC – City of Surrey announced today it is developing a Surrey Music Strategy and local music directories to support artist development and create a thriving local music economy.  

“Music is a powerful tool that strengthens the social and cultural fabric of the city by enhancing feelings of community, connection and creativity among residents,” said Mayor Doug McCallum. “That is why Council is developing the Surrey Music Strategy to create new opportunities and resources that support our local artists and venues. The talented musicians and performers we have in Surrey should be given every opportunity to shine and that is what we are aiming to achieve with the Surrey Music Strategy.”  

Surrey is one of the fastest growing major cities in Canada and offers a diverse community of musicians and music businesses, including booking agencies, instrument stores, live music production support, publicists, music schools, event producers and recording studios.  

Music BC, with support from Creative BC and the Province of British Columbia, will fund up to $60,000 toward the project. As a first step, the City has launched a “Music in Surrey” webpage ( where musicians, music-related businesses and not-for-profits can register for the new Surrey Music directories, which will launch in early 2022. Musicians who register for the directory can enter for a chance to win a $250 Long & McQuade gift card. 

“We are fortunate to have a wealth of creative music talent and infrastructure here in B.C. and the City of Surrey is a robust contributor to that talent,” said Parliamentary Secretary for Film and Music Bob D’Eith. “The Surrey Music Strategy strengthens the local music community and creates opportunity to share such diverse talent with all British Columbians.” 

Starting in October, the City will begin work with a consultant to implement three phases of growth for the Surrey Music Strategy: research and discovery, community engagement, and strategy development and recommendations. As part of community engagement, and to ensure the creation of a sustainable and resilient music economy, the City will seek feedback from local music industry experts and key stakeholders, including musicians and business owners.
