Surrey, BC – Events organized by the City of Surrey that host more than 250 people will be cancelled until further notice. At this afternoon’s daily briefing, the Provincial Health Officer and Minister of Health have directed this measure to curb the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

“I know this step will impact many people, but this decision has been made in the best interests of those who live, work, or visit Surrey,” said Mayor Doug McCallum. “I want to assure you that City staff will be continually assessing the situation and will take appropriate measures when the risk level changes. We are in extraordinary times and I strongly encourage everyone to do their part to mitigate the risk of exposure or transmission of the Coronavirus.”

The City of Surrey is working closely with the Fraser Health Authority, the BC Centre for Disease Control, and the Public Health Agency of Canada to monitor and to respond to the situation.
