Help Prevent Brush Fires
Seasonally high temperatures and dry weather conditions present an increased risk of brush fires and nuisance smoke throughout the City of Surrey.
Surrey, BC – Seasonally high temperatures and dry weather conditions present an increased risk of brush fires and nuisance smoke throughout the City of Surrey. Surrey Fire Services responses to brush/grass fire incidents are trending higher than previous years. Between May 1 and July 17 this year, the Surrey Fire Service has responded to 371 brush and grass fires. Most of these fires are caused by human activity.
A reminder that open burning including backyard fires and beach fires are not allowed within the City of Surrey. Any open burning responses may be subject to cost recovery for Surrey Fire Services attendance. Normally permitted burning on agricultural land is banned between May 1 and October 1 yearly.
The Surrey Fire Service wants everyone to have a safe summer and enjoy our parks and beaches. Here are some simple steps to help prevent brush fires:
- Dispose of smoking materials properly in an approved container, not out of a vehicle window or on the ground.
- There is no burning, smoking or camping permitted in City of Surrey parks.
- Do not leave barbeques or any cooking appliance unattended.
- Properly dispose of bottles and broken glass in a recycling bin.
