Surrey, B.C. – The City of Surrey is actively seeking community input to aid in the development of a new Official Community Plan (OCP). This plan will establish the vision, objectives, and policies crucial to guiding the city's growth. As the initial phase of engagement commences, the City is encouraging residents, business, community organizations and other interested parties to share their perspectives on what they love about Surrey and what areas need improvement. Join the conversation and take the online survey until March 31, 2024.

“We are excited to start the process of updating our Official Community Plan that will support Surrey’s growth, while keeping a thriving, green and inclusive community,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “Upon completion, the OCP will be a major document that will shape the vision, objectives and policies of Surrey for the next decade. We invite everyone to get involved. By hearing from diverse voices throughout the city, we can develop a plan that supports affordable housing options, improved transportation options, and additional recreational amenities.”

The current OCP is over 10 years old and new Provincial legislation mandates all community plans must be updated every five years. The new OCP will establish the City’s long-term goals for the future. It will support housing options for everyone and foster neighborhoods where residents can live close to everything they need. It will support the protection of important natural areas and the environment. The new OCP will also build on other City and regional strategies focused on growth, climate change and transportation, and align with the new provincial housing legislation introduced November 2023.

Over the next two years, residents will have many opportunities to help shape the plan. The plan is expected to be completed in late 2025.
