Surrey Aims to Bring Joy to Seniors with Mobile Festive Light Display

Surrey, BC – The City of Surrey is set to launch a new outdoor mobile light display to brighten the community and bring cheer to seniors over the holiday season. For the month of December, a flat-bed truck decorated with festive light fixtures, will tour around Surrey stopping at various retirement residences to help brighten winter celebrations safely for seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With our new mobile light display, we can help brighten this holiday season for our seniors by bringing festive lights right to their doorstep,” said Mayor Doug McCallum. “We are grateful for the support of our business community, including Anne-Marie Davidson and Alex Uruquart from MK Illuminations and Douggie Grande from Cobra Electric, for stepping up and helping support this initiative. With their support, we are hoping to bring joy to many seniors in our community during this Christmas season.”
“The pandemic has magnified the feelings of isolation many seniors face, as they stay home and limit interactions with family and friends,” said Councillor Laurie Guerra, Chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee. “But our unwavering goal is to ensure we provide opportunities for our seniors to stay active an engaged in the community, and this mobile festive light display will not doubt bring some holiday joy to those who need it most.”
Beginning with Chartwell Imperial Place Retirement Residence, the mobile light display will travel to various locations throughout the season. This initiative is part of the City’s Light Where You Live community enhancement project aimed at brightening our City and helping illuminate spirits over the winter months. The campaign encourages the community to help make Surrey’s neighbourhoods festive and bright by decorating homes and businesses with lights and bright colours.
