Surrey, B.C. – The City of Surrey is pleased to announce its 2024 Cultural Grants allocations. This year, City Council has awarded $581,205 in grants to 78 arts, culture and heritage organizations to support a wide variety of cultural activities taking place in Surrey.

"It’s so important that we provide this support to Surrey’s arts, culture, and heritage groups,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “These grants help organizations enrich our diverse cultural scene and create meaningful and memorable experiences for residents. By investing in our arts and heritage sectors, we are not only preserving our community's history and identity, but also fostering creativity and innovation for future generations to enjoy."

The Cultural Grants Program aims to support a wide range of artistic practices and cultural celebrations and events that reflect Surrey’s diverse communities. These cultural experiences play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life of residents, by strengthening the organizational capacity of new or existing cultural groups, cultural programs, events, and activities in the city.

Funding is available in three categories: Cultural Celebrations, Projects, and Operating Grants. In 2023, the City awarded over $550,000 to 70 local organizations. Funding supports a diverse range of cultural experiences, including music, dance, theatre, visual arts, festivals and events, and more.

Last year, the City streamlined its application process by introducing online forms, ensuring a smoother intake process. Additionally, staff hosted information sessions to help interested applicants through the process and learn more about the program.

Since 2013, the City’s Cultural Grants Program has provided over 850 grants, supporting organizations that provide residents with original community-based artistic experiences, deliver consistent and meaningful programming, and play a leadership role in enriching Surrey’s cultural landscape.
