Surrey City Council is making significant investments in outdoor sport infrastructure with the approval of the City’s Five-Year (2024-2028) Financial Plan – Capital Program.

Surrey, BC – Surrey City Council is making significant investments in outdoor sport infrastructure with the approval of the City’s Five-Year (2024-2028) Financial Plan – Capital Program. The five-year plan earmarks more than $44.9 million towards new, upgraded and enhanced outdoor sport facilities, with more than $16.8 million allocated for 2024.  

"I'm proud to announce our commitment to enhancing outdoor sports facilities across Surrey,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “These investments will serve the diverse interests and needs of our growing city, enriching recreational opportunities, attracting visitors and elevating Surrey's profile as a world-class sports hub." 

"From new field hockey fields and artificial turf replacements, to a lacrosse box and upgrades, these capital projects will significantly benefit our local communities,” said Councillor Gord Hepner, Chair of the Parks, Recreation & Sport Tourism Committee. “We have listened to the community and have chosen investments that best respond to those needs. They will foster the overall health and well-being of our residents, promote connections, and create lasting memories for individuals of all ages."  

Key projects moving forward in 2024 include: 

  • A third field hockey field at Tamanawis Park  
  • Artificial turf field space and parking lot expansion at Cloverdale Athletic Park  
  • A covered lacrosse box and multi-sport box at South Surrey Athletic Park  
  • Sports field light upgrades and parking lot improvements at Softball City  
  • Artificial turf replacement at Hjorth Road Park  
  • Natural grass cricket pitch at Sullivan Heights Park  
  • Ball diamond improvements at Sunnyside Park  

These projects will get underway immediately as they advance through various stages of public consultation, detailed design and construction in the months and years ahead. In addition, upgrades totaling $3.1 million to the Bear Creek Park track and field amenities are already underway, with completion anticipated in fall 2024.
