Surrey, BC – Surrey Homelessness & Housing Society (SHHS) is launching a call for proposals in early May aiming to support initiatives that will reduce and prevent homelessness in Surrey. Projects eligible for funding will focus on contributing to capital projects that create or maintain housing stock, programs that increase the access to housing, and initiatives that build capacity in the homelessness and housing sector in Surrey.
“We are pleased to launch this call for proposals and continue supporting the innovative and crucial projects that are being developed by organizations in Surrey working to address the complex housing challenges in our community” said Councillor Laurie Guerra, President of the Surrey Homelessness and Housing society. “The grants will be available to eligible organizations operating in Surrey and will provide services to those who are unhoused or at risk of becoming unhoused. This is another step in the right direction as we work towards ensuring every Surrey resident has a place to call home.”
More information regarding the application process, key funding priorities and eligibility criteria will be posted and available on the SHHS website in the coming days.
About Surrey Homelessness & Housing Society:
Since its inception in 2007, SHHS has granted over $7 million to support the development of housing, programs and partnerships that effectively respond to the needs of people who are unhoused or at risk of becoming unhoused in Surrey. In 2021, SHHS’ call for proposals led to $290,000 granted to 9 projects that will maintain housing stock, build organizational capacity and provide innovative services to our priority populations. This was following contributions in 2020 that supported the COVID-19 response, where $600,000 was granted to 30 projects addressing local, urgent needs. Our vision is that everyone in Surrey has a home – if you are an organization in Surrey working to make this possible with an eligible project in mind, we encourage you to apply.
