About the 55+ BC Games

The 55+ BC Games are an annual, multi-sport event hosted by a different community in British Columbia each year. On average, 3,500 to 4,000 participants from around BC compete in 20+ sports.

The BC Senior Games Society (BCSGS) has been overseeing the staging of the Games since 1988. Their vision is that communities across BC are transformed by the inspirational lifestyles of the 55+ BC Games participants.

Try something new

Have you ever wanted to try a sport?  The ‘Try It’ 55+ Sports and Games offers a free experience of various sports and games that may be of interest.  

Through offering ‘Try It’ 55+ Sports and Games we aim to connect community, engage older adults in sports that promote physical activity, maintain mobility and support social and health benefits. Community ‘Try It’ opportunities invite you to explore an activity that you may not have otherwise experienced. 

Try It activities will be planned throughout the seasons offering both outdoor and indoor experiences. No equipment is required, but please sign up ahead of time.

Try It:  Circuit Training 55+

Clayton Community Centre

Join us for an introduction to Circuit Training. Learn your way around the weight room. Use the equipment in a circuit format and learn what muscle groups each machine is used for. Proper form for improving cardio and strength is demonstrated.

Fleetwood Community Centre Outdoor Field

Join us for a fun game of bocce ball. Learn the basic rules and scoring. Enjoy playing a non-competitive game.

‘Try It’ 55+ Sports and Games Passport Contest               

Have you ever wanted to try a sport? Join one or more of the free ‘Try It’ Sports. It's your passport to trying a new activity!

Get a passport at your first ‘Try It’ activity, bring it to all activities for stamps, and earn entries to win an annual recreation pass.

How it works

To participate, register for one or more of the 'Try It' activities. You will receive a passport at the location of your first attended activity. Remember to bring your passport to the activities you've registered for.

At the end of the activity, the activity leader will stamp your passport. Each stamp on the passport earns you an entry into the draw. The more stamps you collect, the better your chance of winning the prize. You can find a complete list of terms and conditions on the event page.

 

Try It:  Power Walking

June 3 at 9:00am-10:00am

Bear Creek Park

Join us for an introduction to power walking. Power walking is walking at a faster pace than regular walking and is not competitive. Learn the proper walking and breathing techniques. And learn stretches to be performed before and after the walk.

Join us for an introduction to the game of snooker. Learn basic snooker skills, game play rules and tips. All skill levels and abilities welcome.

Join us for an introduction to Circuit Training. Learn your way around the weight room. Use the equipment in a circuit format and learn what muscle groups each machine is used for. Proper form for improving cardio and strength is demonstrated.

Join of for an exciting game of badminton. Learn the basic rules of this racket sport and spend time socializing with other players. All skills levels and abilities are welcome. All equipment will be provided.

Enjoy a high impact Aquafit workout. Work on developing your cardio, strength, and endurance. Aquafit experience is not required.

Come out and try the low-impact sport of carpet bowling. Carpet bowling is like lawn bowling, but it is played indoors. Learn the rules of the game and enjoy socializing with other players. All skill levels and abilities are welcome. All equipment will be provided.

Enjoy a high impact Aquafit workout. Work on developing your cardio, strength, and endurance. Aquafit experience is not required.

Enjoy a non-impact workout. The focus will be introducing drills like hills, sprints, and intervals. Cycling experience is not required.
