New Art Takeout Courses

Claymaking and Drawing

Feed your artistic side with our Art Takeout "at leisure" courses! For all ages, including materials for pickup and video art lessons, work at your own pace to complete artworks in two weeks or two months.

From sketching on location at Denman Island to setting up her pencils and papers in downtown Steveston and Iona Beach, sign up for "Drawing in the Field" with artist educator Alexandra Thomson to learn different sketching techniques and ways to depict the ever-evolving landscape around us. Capture on paper the change of seasons as we head into autumn with six hour-long classes including techniques such as contour line drawing, sighting and perspective, shading, and more! Learn how to render clouds, flowers, fenceposts, moving water, fields and meadows, and the bustling cityscape. "Drawing in the Field" is a thoughtful way to begin your sketching journey or revisit the techniques you may already know. $15.

Filming from her studio here in Surrey, use your imagination and create handbuilt ceramics with artist-educator Amelia Butcher as she takes you on a journey with "Handbuilding with Clay!" Create small pinch pots and large coil vessels, experiment with sgraffito and underglaze designs, and even build your own piece of cake with clay slabs. On your own or with family and friends, reimagine the sculptural possibilities of clay. Includes materials, video lessons, firing, and glazing. $35, with optional tool kit for $34.50 and extra clay for $29.

Register here under "Online Programs—Arts" or phone the Call Centre at 604 501 5100.

Originally, Art Takeout's "Drawing in the Field" ran from July 20 to August 24 and "Handbuilding with Clay!" from July 27 to August 31, each course including a live session.
