City Celebrates Arbor Day with Community Tree Planting Event
Arbor Day is observed around the world as a day to plant trees and to reflect on the important roles they play in our lives and in our communities.
Surrey, B.C. – Surrey residents celebrated Arbor Day by planting 46 large shade trees at William Beagle Park, supported by funding from a Tree Canada Treemendous Communities grant, sponsored by UPS.
“Caring for our urban forest is vital to achieving our vision of being a thriving, green and inclusive city,” said Mayor Doug McCallum. “We are thankful for the funding support from Tree Canada and UPS and for the community volunteers who helped plant and celebrate trees in Surrey.”
Arbor Day is observed around the world as a day to plant trees and to reflect on the important roles they play in our lives and in our communities. This year’s event was Surrey’s 18th annual Arbor Day celebration, which is held in a different park each year to engage residents in caring for parks throughout Surrey.
Surrey’s Releaf tree planting program is delivered by Surrey Parks to support the health of our urban forest and to promote the many benefits of trees including beautification, clean air, wildlife habitat, energy savings and opportunities to connect with nature. By the end of the year, the City of Surrey will plant 12,300 trees on public property and will make available for sale to residents 4,000 trees at our popular City Tree Sales. 2022 also marks the third year in a row Surrey has been recognized as a Tree City of the World.
