Our City campaign sparks over 80 neighbourhood-led projects
This year, the Our City campaign inspired residents to get involved and improve their neighbourhoods.
Surrey, BC – This year, the Our City campaign inspired residents to get involved and improve their neighbourhoods. They completed over 80 small neighbourhood-led improvement projects, cleanups and events.
The projects included cleanups, litter pickups, invasive species removal, fence art, street banners, tree plantings, community gardens, block parties, placemaking workshops, audio tours and more.
"The citizens of Surrey are proud of their city, and the tremendous participation in the Our City campaign confirms that,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “On behalf of City Council, I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped to make Our City such a success. Your contributions have truly made our neighbourhoods shine by igniting city pride and fostering stronger community connections across Surrey."
Support of these initiatives were provided through grants of up to $3,000, along with a wealth of tools and resources available at surrey.ca/ourcity.
With more than 600 participants, 300 volunteer hours contributed, and 49 grants awarded, the Our City campaign was a success. To explore these initiatives, visit our online story map, showcasing real neighbourhood improvement projects throughout Surrey.
To wrap up this year’s Our City campaign, volunteers and participants came out to Hazelnut Meadows Community Park for a Community Tree Planting event and Our City celebration on October 28. Participants had the chance to plant a tree, cleanup litter from a local park and engage in various activities.
