Surrey, BC – The City of Surrey hosted the eleventh annual Surrey Tree Lighting Festival at Civic Plaza this past Saturday, attracting thousands of attendees with the return of in-person holiday festivities. Presented by Coast Capital, the event featured Surrey’s 60-foot Christmas tree, immersive light displays, a holiday market featuring local vendors and free photos with Santa. Attendees experienced performances by Surrey artists including award-winning trio Ludic, Yvonne Kushe, Á'a:líya, Glisha and Tess Anderson.

“The City of Surrey is proud to hold our first major in-person event since 2019, with this past weekend’s Surrey Tree Lighting Festival,” says Mayor Doug McCallum. “The festival brought residents and visitors together to celebrate the start of the holiday season that will make memories for years to come. I was thrilled to see attendees enjoying live music–including an amazing headline performance by Ludic–and incredible light displays on Saturday evening.”

Attendees experienced light displays throughout the festival, including a 22-foot-tall Taj Mahal, a 60’ light tunnel, illuminated swings, life-sized presents and a penguin playground. Free hot chocolate was provided to guests in the Enchanted Eats zone presented by Dished. Additional highlights included a Christmas Musical in the Enchanted Village tent and dance performances by North Surrey Dance, Higher Ground Dance Company, Stray Path & Salish Secondary Dance Program on the Main Stage.

“We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the City of Surrey for their extraordinary effort in bringing the Surrey Tree Lighting Festival to life this season,” said Maureen Young, Coast Capital’s Director, Social Purpose Office. “Each year the festival brings together our diverse community and keeps family traditions thriving. As a social purpose organization, Coast Capital is committed to building better futures together and we are always delighted to celebrate the spirit of the season with the Surrey community.”

Attendees can take a survey to provide feedback on the festival for a chance to win a $250 gift card to Central City Shopping Centre. Surrey Tree Lighting Festival is followed by Surrey Holiday Lights–an immersive light and music experience–held from November 25 to January 2, 2022 on Surrey Civic Plaza.
