Enhance Surrey's urban forest and promote environmental stewardship through Surrey's Natural Areas Partnership (SNAP).

Surrey’s Natural Areas Partnership (SNAP) plays an important role in caring for Surrey’s urban forest! Our teams restore and enhance Surrey's urban forest, and raise awareness of environmental stewardship in the community.

Each summer and fall, post-secondary students and recent graduates are hired to work in Surrey’s parks and neighbouring communities. Participants gain valuable hands-on employment experience to help build their futures and become leaders in the environmental field.

Employment Opportunities

SNAP is hiring one Field Team Leader to join the summer 2023 team. The application deadline is April 10, 2023.

"Seeing how wildlife and plants can be spread or be limited by urban development encouraged me to continue a career in this field." - Field Team Leader

SNAP's Partners

SNAP is managed by Green Timbers Heritage Society, in partnership with Sunnyside Acres Heritage SocietyWhite Rock and Surrey Naturalists Society and the City of Surrey.

SNAP receives funding support from the City of Surrey and the Canada Summer Jobs Program.

SNAP's Work

The field team helps restore and enhance Surrey’s urban forest and shade trees. They remove invasive plants from natural areas throughout the city, plant native trees and shrubs, clean up garbage and yard waste, and enhance tree wells. These actions help to preserve the health of our natural environment and improve Surrey’s biodiversity.

Promoting nature appreciation and park stewardship among the community is also an important part of SNAP's work. The urban forest outreach team welcomes park visitors and helps to raise awareness about issues like yard waste disposal and invasive plants. Look for them in Surrey's parks during the summer!
