The Age Friendly Strategy provides the key strategies and desired outcomes for developing an age friendly community.

City of Surrey has experienced significant changes since the initial development of the Age-Friendly Strategy for Seniors in 2014. This updated Age Friendly Strategy builds on the City’s many overarching plans and strategies to provide an integrated approach to address the comprehensive needs of older adults in Surrey.

The strategy seeks to define new opportunities for partnerships and collaborations—both internally across City departments as well as externally with various community organizations and groups to meet the needs of our senior community.

We want Surrey to be an age friendly city where people enjoy lifelong activity and engagement.

The Surrey Age Friendly Strategy provides the key strategies and desired outcomes for developing an age-friendly community.

The strategy includes:

Safety, health and wellness

Seniors are supported to be active and engaged in their community and engagement practices are in place to prevent isolation

Transportation & mobility

Seniors have a range of safe, convenient and accessible affordable transportation choices.

Home

Seniors have access to affordable and appropriate housing and support necessary to remain as independent as possible.

Buildings & outdoor spaces

Public places, outdoor spaces and buildings are designed to be welcoming, safe and accessible.

Age Friendly Action Plan

The City of Surrey is dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for older adults. The Age Friendly Action Plan builds on Surrey's existing Age Friendly Strategy, addressing the needs of residents aged 55 and older. This comprehensive plan is guided by principles of inclusion, community engagement, and respect, ensuring that older adults remain active, engaged, and supported throughout their lives.

Developed in collaboration with the Surrey Age-Friendly Network and informed by community input, the plan focuses on four key areas to promote healthy aging. Supported by the Age-Friendly Communities Grant from BC Healthy Communities, this initiative strengthens Surrey’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility for all.

Safety, health and wellness

Transportation
