Join like-minded youth in creating some of Surrey's largest youth events. The Youth Event Squad (YES) helps City of Surrey staff plan, organize, and execute various celebrations throughout the year. These events are created for youth, by youth.

YES is a group of youth between the ages of 14 and 21 that work alongside City of Surrey staff to ensure that youth voices are heard when planning events. YES gives young people the chance to take on leadership roles and make their ideas come to life. YES is a great opportunity to learn how to work collaboratively in a team with other strong youth.

Events

YES has worked on numerous events for the City of Surrey:

Fusion Festival

Most recently they helped introduce the brand new 'Cultural Cooking Arena' stage to Fusion Festival. Here they organized a Youth Cooking Showdown that featured two teams competing in a head-to-head culinary challenge. YES helped with a number of aspects in the challenge such as ingredients, format, MC'ing, cleaning, and much more!

Online Youth Nights

YES has also worked on a number of Online Youth Nights. Did you know that the City of Surrey is one of the only local municipalities to continue to offer online programming? The most recent Online Youth Night YES participated in was about financial literacy. In this workshop, YES members taught other youth the importance of saving money and investing. They also discussed some strategies involved when borrowing money like taking student loans.

Kids Conference

Another event YES has worked on was the Kids Conference. YES organized a few different science experiments to share with the children who attended. Here YES members explained some concepts around chemistry and physics in a fun way to encourage children to learn and play.

Join YES

The next large event YES will be working on is the Surrey Youth Showcase. If you are interested in joining YES, please email youth@surrey.ca.
