Online Registration Improvements
You asked, we listened!
The City of Surrey has been working hard to improve the online registration experience, provide stability to the system, and better manage high volumes of traffic for upcoming seasonal registrations.
These improvements include:
- A virtual waiting room to manage high volumes of traffic when registration opens
- A simplified login process
- A new secure redirect registration link on surrey.ca
More improvements will be implemented for future registrations.
Virtual Waiting Room
We are launching a new virtual waiting room on surrey.ca for seasonal registration. The virtual waiting room provides a fair and reliable user experience while managing high demands of traffic online.
Everyone entering the virtual waiting room before registration opens at 9pm will be held in a countdown page and then randomized, giving everyone an equal chance; anyone arriving to surrey.ca after 9pm are added to the virtual waiting room on a first-in-first-out basis.
Please note: There is no benefit to logging in any earlier than 15 minutes before registration opens. We encourage you to login anytime between 8:45pm and 8:59pm.
Registration Tips
While we recommend using the tips below, we cannot guarantee that you will secure a spot.
Before Registration Day
- Plan ahead, browse offered programs using the Broad or Focused Search or in the digital guide, and make notes of the course IDs for quicker searching on registration day.
- Log in and check that your MySurrey account information is correct and up to date.
- Verify you can see all your family members on your account. Add or remove family members before registration day by calling 604-501-5100 or emailing PRCCustomerService@surrey.ca with your name, birth date, phone number and the name and birth date of the family member you wish to add or remove.
- Do not create a new MySurrey account if you previously had a recreation account and can’t remember the email associated with it. Call us at 604-501-5100 and we will help you find your original account.
On Registration Day
- Booking online vs. phone is faster.
- Families who register online should create one MySurrey account. All adults in the same household must use the same credentials to sign in.
- Use Chrome as your browser.
- Log into your MySurrey account between 8:45pm and 8:59pm to enter the virtual waiting room. There is no benefit to logging in earlier than 8:45pm (15 minutes before registration opens). If you log in before 8:45pm, refresh the page after 8:45pm to enter the virtual waiting room.
- Do not close your browser at any time while you’re in the virtual waiting room.
- Register and pay for courses that fill up quickly first. Find other courses after securing your registration in those courses.
- Securely store credit card information on file to avoid entering it each time.
- Join the waitlist. If we have a cancellation, then we will call those on the waitlist in the order that they joined.
Two Ways to Search
In addition to our current search tool, we’ve added another way to search for activities online. Both tools will take you to our registration system, which remains unchanged. Choose the tool that works best for your needs. We recommend using Chrome for the best experience.
Broad Search
- Not sure what you’re looking for? Best for customers who wish to see all available activities first and then make selections.
- Can filter by keyword, course code or date range.
Focused Search
-
Answer a few quick questions and display results based on selections.
- Best for customers who know exactly what they’re looking for or those who wish to be guided, step by step to a program.
- Save time later by saving personalized searches for each family member.
- Using saved searches will be faster for users who frequently search for the same activities.
- Focused searches will load faster with less criteria chosen. If selecting a large number of activities, choose the broad search for faster results.

Using the Search Tools
General Searching
Why are there now two ways to search for an activity? What was wrong with the current system?
The existing system is fine and still an option for those who like it. However, we’re always striving to improve our customer’s experience, so we’ve developed a more focused tool that may work better for some users.
Which method you use depends on how you like to see information; either seeing all available programs first and then drilling down or by focusing your criteria first and then seeing available programs. The choice is yours and there are benefits to each tool. Both methods will take you to our registration system and you will register the same way you do now.
Which search tool is faster?
The focused search is faster if you know exactly what you are looking for. You can even save your search for later so next time you register it will be even faster.
We recommend this tool if you are a frequent user who searches for the same activities often.
I don’t have a desktop computer. Can I search using my phone or other device?
Yes! Both tools will work with mobile phones, laptops, tablets, and desktop computers. We recommend bookmarking surrey.ca/register to start your search from any device and using Chrome as your browser for the best experience.
Do I need to have a MySurrey account to search for an activity?
You don’t need it to search, but you do need it to register for an activity online and see or update any saved searches using the focused tool. Alternatively, you can see registered programs on offer in our seasonal recreation guides and see the latest drop-in schedules for pools, fitness, gymnasium and skating.
If you prefer not to have a MySurrey account, you can register by telephone at 604-501-5100 or in person at any recreation facility during operating hours.
Using Broad Search
How do I narrow down my search?
If you prefer not to click around to find activities, use the filters on the left-hand side of the screen to narrow your search. If you like to search by keyword, course code, or date range, you must use this search tool. You can search by location using either tool.
What is a course code and where do I find it? Do I need it to register?
Course codes are 6-digits long and are found in the recreation guide. They are helpful to target the exact activity/location you are looking for, but you can also find activities using other criteria like age group, location, activity, etc.
Using Focused Search
Why can’t I select/view drop-in activities and programs all at once?
When you select your activity type, you’ll select either drop-ins for one-time activities or programs for recurring activities. You will not be able to select or view both at the same time for this field only.
I cannot select by activity. Why not?
You must first select one or more age groups before you can proceed.
How do I change my search criteria?
Click the “X” beside each filter to remove it. To change items, simply select or deselect the various checkboxes associated to each category. System will automatically update. If you are making changes to a saved search, you need to save your changes to confirm.
How do I get back to the focused search tool once I’m inside the registration system?
From inside your cart, click Find an Activity at the top of the page and it will take you back to the Activities Registration page. Select Focused Search. You will not need to log into your My Surrey account again.
Saving Searches using the Focused Search Tool
How do I save a personalized search?
You can only save a search using the focused search tool, not the broad search tool.
You must be logged into your My Surrey account to save searches and to see them later.
Either log in first, then search, then save your search by naming it and clicking save to confirm or select your search criteria first, then log in to save. Name your search, then click save to confirm.
Each search that you save must have a different name.
Is there a limit to the number of searches I can save?
You can save multiple searches. You can also change your search criteria, and resave it, rather than creating a new saved search.
How do I edit a list once it’s been saved?
Make sure you are logged in using your My Surrey account so that you will see your saved searches. To make changes to an existing list, click on the search you wish to change. Click the X beside an item to remove it. To add items, select the various checkboxes associated to each activity. You may need to click expand to see more options. Be sure to save changes to confirm.
Can I rename a saved search?
Yes. Make sure you are logged into your My Surrey account. Select the search you wish to rename under My Saved Searches. Click the three dots. Select rename and enter a new name. Click rename again to confirm.
Why am I getting an error message when trying to name my search?
The name for that search already exists. Each search name must be unique, so call it by a different name.
Can I delete a saved list?
Yes. Select the list you want to delete and click the three dots. Select delete and click delete again to confirm.
I’ve logged into My Surrey account from the top of the City of Surrey home page, but I’m not seeing my saved searches under My Activities in the drop-down menu. How do I see my saved searches?
The items listed under My Activities when you log into My Surrey from the top of the City of Surrey home page is not your saved searches list. It is a list of City of Surrey online services (not recreation) that you have completed using your My Surrey account.
There are two ways you can navigate to your Saved Searches. Once you are logged into My Surrey:
-
Click on My Activities, then click on View Information About Your Recreation Activities. Click on Find an Activity which takes you back to the Activities Registration page. Select Focused Search. You should now be able to see your saved searches.
-
From the City of Surrey home page, click on Register for Classes or Activities, which takes you to the Activities Registration page. Select Focused Search. You should now be able to see your saved searches.
Changing Views
How do I only see programs with available space?
Untick the Include Waitlist box.
How can I view course descriptions on drop-In activities?
Click the information symbol, (green circle with a small “I” inside it) to view course description.
How can I view more recurring program activities per page?
If a long list of programs is displayed, you can choose to hide course descriptions, allowing you to view more activities per page.
Using the Online Registration System
How do I create a My Surrey account?
New users can create one quickly and easily by following the prompts. If you have never had a recreation account before, use any email you wish. All adult family members in the same household should use one My Surrey account email and password, not create a separate account for each user.
Contact the call centre first at 604-501-5100 if you:
-
Have previously had a recreation account before and can’t remember the email associated with that account.
-
Need to add a family member to your account.
What if I do not have access to a computer, tablet or mobile phone?
To register by phone, call 604-501-5100, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm; a customer service representative will be happy to help you. You can also register in person at any Surrey Parks, Recreation & Culture facility during hours of operation.
Is the system secure?
Our online registration system meets the industry standard for encryption and security measures to protect people’s personal information.
I'm uncomfortable using a credit card over the internet. Can I still use the system to register?
You can make a payment to your account by phoning our call centre during business hours at 604-501-5100. Once the credit is applied to your account, you will be able to register and the cost of the registration will deduct from the balance. You must ensure you have a enough balance to cover the full cost of your registration to successfully complete the transaction. When you checkout, select Apply Credit Balance to pay.
I don’t have an email address. How do I register for a course?
An email address is required to register online. However, you may still register by telephone by calling 604-501-5100.
Accessing my Account
What email address should my family use to create a MySurrey account?
For customers who already have a recreation account, the email you use to create your MySurrey account must match what we have on file or a duplicate account will be created. If you are unsure which email we have on file, call 604-501-5100. Once your MySurrey account is created, all adults residing in the same household should use the same credentials when signing in or a duplicate account will be created.
New customers who have never previously registered may use any email address they wish when creating their MySurrey account. Once you have created your MySurrey account, continue to use the same email address and password to log in.
I’m already a customer with a recreation account. Why do I need a MySurrey account?
All customers require a MySurrey account to use the online registration system. For current customers, their recreation account will link to their MySurrey account and once created, your MySurrey account will allow you to access more city services online from a single account, including registering for Parks, Recreation and Culture programs.
My partner and I both register for programs. Do we both need a MySurrey account?
No. Families who register online should create just one MySurrey account. All adults in the same household should use the same credentials to sign in.
I forgot my password. What should I do now?
When you log into your MySurrey account, click on the "forgot password" link and an email will be sent to you. Click on the link inside the email and reset your password.
I do not live in Surrey, can I register online?
People living outside of Surrey may register online.
My Account
Can I manage my own information in this system?
Yes. One of the features of our online registration system is that you can see and manage your own information. This includes adding emergency contacts and important medical information. You can also store credit cards to your account if you don’t want to re-enter this information each time you register.
To see information, log in, and select my info to see your account information. Click on the family member you would like to update the information of, then select edit to change the necessary fields.
How can I see the credit on my account?
If you have credit on your account, you will see this during checkout. The credit will show as a payment option, and you can choose to use the credit, or to leave it on your account for a future transaction. Please note that the credit does not show on your my info tab, only during checkout. If you have any questions about a credit on your account, please feel free to contact us at 604-501-5100 or visit us in person at a recreation facility.
How do I add a registered course to my electronic calendar?
After payment is complete, click add to calendar. You can also do it from your account. From my info, click on the person registered for the course. Scroll down to schedules. Click on the course. Under actions, select add to electronic calendar.
What e-mail address should my family provide for registering online?
For customers who already have a recreation account, the email you use to create your MySurrey account must match or a duplicate account will be created. New customers who have never previously registered may use any email address they wish when creating their MySurrey account. Once you have created your MySurrey account, continue to use the same email address and password to log in.

You likely have created a duplicate account by using different email addresses. Call 604-501-5100 and we will merge the accounts. Once merged, all adults residing in the same household should use the same email/password when signing into their MySurrey account.
