The City of Surrey performs four types of on-demand tree inspections:

  • tree replacement inspections
  • tree barrier inspections
  • landscaping inspections
  • retained tree inspections

Do not use this form for trees that need to be removedpruned or for inspection status updates. Email your general inquiries to treebylaw@surrey.ca. For inspections, tree requirements and etc, follow up directly with the arborist assigned to your file.

Landscaping must be complete before booking this inspection. Single family sites must also have building final approval before booking this inspection.

Required information for booking your inspection

Tree Replacement Inspection

Replacement trees are required as a condition of all tree cutting permits. Book your replacement tree inspection once your new trees have been planted. Please ensure that you have followed our guidelines in selecting and planting your trees before booking your inspection. 

To book your replacement tree inspection, complete the inspection form with the following information:

  1. Address or Project Number (include in the subject line and body of the email)
  2. Contact Name, Phone Number and Email Address
  3. Number of replacement trees on the property
  4. One photo of each replacement tree in JPEG or PDF format
Tree Barrier Inspections

Tree protection barriers are required as a condition of all building permits, demolition permits, development permits, and development variance permits and subdivisions.

To book your tree barrier inspection, complete the inspection form with the following information:

  1. Address or Project Number (include in the subject line and body of the email)
  2. Contact Name, Phone Number and Email Address
  3. Up to three photos of the tree barriers in JPEG or PDF format
  4. If you are required to have a line of excavation inspection, you must book this at the same time as your barriers. Please mention in your email that the line of excavation pins are ready.

Please ensure that your tree barrier looks like the example in this photo. If you are missing the elements above, your inspection request will be rejected.

Retained Tree Inspections

Retained tree securities are required as a condition of all building permits, development permits, development variance permits, and subdivisions.

To book your retained tree inspection, complete the inspection form with the following information:

  1. Address or Project Number (include in the subject line and body of the email)
  2. Contact Name, Phone Number and Email Address
Landscaping Inspections

Landscaping securities are required for commercial, industrial, institutional and some development permits. 

To book your landscaping Inspection, complete the inspection form with the following information:

  1. Address and/or Project Number (include in the subject line and body of the email)
  2. Contact Name, Phone Number and Email Address
  3. If this is for the first 90% release or the second 10% release
