construction workers replace underground watermain

We're improving stormwater runoff and rising groundwater levels in Crescent Beach.

Project description

We’re moving ahead on implementing the various phases of the Crescent Beach Utilities Improvements Strategy to manage the area’s fluctuating groundwater levels and service Crescent Beach’s long-term drainage needs.

Phase I and Phase 2 Improvements have been completed. We’re now implementing Phase 3 and in the planning stages for Phase 4. These improvements are also part of the first phase of implementation of Surrey’s Coastal Flood Adaptation Strategy to prepare our community for coastal flooding and sea level rise.

Phase 3 improvements

The drainage works in Phase 3 involve the continued expansion of the storm sewer system together with ground and road raising. In addition to the drainage works, Phase III includes improvements to sections of the watermain and sanitary sewer.

Drainage improvements are planned on Sullivan Street, a section of Ohara Lane, Alexandra Lane, and a section of McBride Avenue. Works include:

  • New storm sewer system with appurtenances,
  • Regrading and restoration of boulevard areas and driveways,
  • Sanitary sewer and Watermain improvements, and
  • Road and pavement work.

Phase 3 project timing

We have completed the design for Phase 3. The project is planned for construction in two phases as shown in the Project Location map. Construction for Phase 3A is planned for summer 2022 and anticipated to be completed in winter 2022/23. Construction of Phase 3B is anticipated to commence in summer of 2024, subject to funding.

Phase 4 improvements

The drainage works in Phase 4 involve the continued expansion of the storm sewer system together with ground and road raising. In addition to the drainage works, Phase IV includes upgrading the watermain on Beecher Street in Crescent Beach area.

Drainage improvements are planned in the area from South of Sullivan Street to Maple Street. Works include:

  • New storm sewer system with appurtenances,
  • Regrading and restoration of boulevard areas and driveways,
  • Watermain improvements, and
  • Road and pavement work.

Phase 4 project timing

Survey work will be done over August and September 2021. Once survey work is complete, we will begin the design work. The design work includes:

  • Determining the storm sewer alignment and location of appurtenances
  • Site grading plan and new road profiles
  • Geotechnical Investigation
  • Archaeological Investigation
  • Ground Penetrating Radar

Construction of the Phase 4 area will be staged in multiple phases. The consultant will advise of the construction sequencing plan.
