Read about the exhibition catalogue for The Art of the Sari held at the Surrey Art Gallery in 2007.

This 2007 publication was produced in conjunction with an exhibition of the same name at the Surrey Art Gallery. The sari is a living, contemporary art form with a long tradition and history. It is also an art form of identity, by its cloth, its style of draping the body, and its persistence as a beautiful and political form of clothing worn by women for over 5000 years. In anticipation of the exhibition, the Surrey Art Gallery issued an invitation to local poets to write poems on the theme of the sari.

This publication includes a selection of those poems as well as a series of colour and black and white photographs of the saris shown in the exhibition.

Also featured in the catalogue is an introduction by Curator of Exhibitions and Collections Liane Davison.
