Capital Construction Program

Every year through the City’s Capital Construction Program, the Engineering Department delivers hundreds of capital projects. These projects keep people and the economy moving. They also keep energy options growing, stormwater draining, wastewater moving and safe drinking water flowing.

Transportation Projects

Transportation projects build and maintain a safe, sustainable, integrated transportation network. Work includes completing streets designed for those who walk, bike, take transit and drive. These types of projects include widening roads and multi-modal projects like:

Additional transportation projects include intersection improvements and adding pedestrian crossings, sidewalks and traffic signals to improve traffic flow and safety.

Energy Projects

Energy projects that use low-carbon, renewable resources to provide heat and hot water to residents are underway.

The West Village District Energy Centre will be Surrey’s first permanent district energy plant once it is completed.

Drainage Projects

Drainage projects include strengthening dyke and flood control in Surrey’s lowlands. They also include rehabilitating natural drainage features and building sustainable drainage features. Examples include detention ponds and perforated pipes for stormwater management.

In 2018, the Chantrell Creek Rehabilitation project, West Clayton Stormwater Detention Pond project, and Crescent Beach Drainage Improvements Phase 2 project are just a few of the projects underway.

Sewer Projects

Sewer upgrades increase Surrey's capacity to move liquid waste for treatment through one of the largest sanitary sewer networks in the province.

In 2018, we’re installing more than eight kilometres of new sanitary sewer and starting construction of the multi-year Robson Sewer Replacement program.

Water Projects

Water projects provide safe and clean drinking water to residents and businesses all throughout Surrey.

In 2018, more than 18 kilometres of new watermain are being built to meet the needs of our growing population.
