Learn the structure and responsibilities of the Transportation Division at the City of Surrey.

Surrey’s Transportation Division is made up of six sections that are responsible for geospatial and cadastral data, planning, managing, building and maintaining the infrastructure and services we use to move people and goods safely through our City.

Transportation in Surrey is about ensuring our residents and visitors can drivecyclewalk or take transit safely and efficiently.

What Our Sections Do

Geographic Information Services (GIS)

The GIS section maintains a number of key systems for the City including:

  • The corporate spatial information system ArcGIS Enterprise
  • The asset management system Cityworks
  • The fleet management system Assetworks
  • The City’s flagship online mapping system COSMOS.

GIS also maintains engineering and property information, and provides geospatial analytics, application development and cartographic services.

Parking Services and New Mobility

The Parking Services and New Mobility section:

  • Manages and plans on-street and off street parking throughout the City
  • Administers the City’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging network and formulates EV practice/policy
  • Develops transportation demand strategies and emerging transportation service delivery models through digital innovation
  • Supports the Surrey Urban Technology Test Lab
Traffic and Road Safety Engineering

The Traffic and Road Safety Engineering section manages:

  • Traffic engineering operations
  • Traffic calming and warrants
  • Road safety review and audits
  • The technical implementation of the award-winning Vision Zero Surrey Safety Mobility Plan with the goal of having zero people killed and seriously injured on Surrey roads.

Transportation Planning

The Transportation Planning section:

  • Develops plans and policies related to walking, cycling, transit and driving

  • Provides direction for transportation impacts and infrastructure for neighbourhood concept plans and land development applications

  • Establishes data driven, multi-criteria prioritization of projects, programs and policies to identify the projects that need to be done and why they are important.

  • Collaborates with external stakeholders to provides reporting education and engagement on the Surrey Transportation Plan and the Vision Zero Surrey Safety Mobility Plan 

Transportation Infrastructure

The Transportation Infrastructure section:

  • Translates plans into action by providing project sponsorship, design excellence, project budgeting and programming, and comprehensive asset management for active Transportation Capital Projects

  • Manages transportation grants and funding as well as capital programming for the annual construction program, 5 year plan along with the 10 year servicing plan
