I journeyed to Canada from Jamaica when I was 15 and I recall the cultural challenges I faced as an immigrant. As a mother of four and grandmother of six young children, I’ve seen through their experiences a whole new set of complexities, and coupled with the many stories I’ve heard from students, parents and teachers, I recognize that education cannot be a “one size fits all”. The challenges they face must be addressed with care, transparency, consideration and commitment, because our children need to feel safe and empowered in their learning environments.

Surrey as a large, diverse city must face head-on, many of its complex issues while maintaining global standards that are fitting of progressive school districts around the world.

I am a proud 17-year resident of Surrey, who is committed to serving our dynamic community with a strong focus on providing all students with opportunities to succeed.
